The beaches in Heraklion showcase the beauty of the Cretan natural scenery. Many are easy to access and fully organized, especially those situated in or near the lively resorts in the northern part of the prefecture.
In brief, the most famous beaches are located in busy tourist resorts, including Matala, Agia Pelagia, and Malia among others. Many hotels are found in proximity to these beaches.
Yet, more secluded and quiet options are not limited. Those mostly lie on the southern coastline.
