How to get to Meteora?

If you want to visit the impressive location of Meteora, you need to reach Kalambaka first. In order to reach Kalambaka, you need to travel to Trikala and then you have to take another bus. In order to reach Meteora from Athens by car, you need to drive through the National Greek Road Athina - Livadia - Lamia and follow the route to Kalambaka.

You can easily reach Meteora by train from many places on the Greek mainland, like Athens, Thessaloniki, Larisa, Livadia and Paleofarsalo. The closest train station is located in Kalambaka. From this point, you can reach Meteora by car or by taxi. Trains from Athens depart from Larissa station. There is no airport in Meteora. The closest one is Nea Anchialos National Airport in Volos. This airport serves a few low-cost flights from abroad and it operates during summer. If you want to travel by plane, then you should better reach Athens or Thessaloniki in the first place, as Eleftherios Venizelos and Makedonia Airport operate all year round. Afterwards, you can reach Meteora by car, by KTEL bus or by train, as mentioned above.
