Mesolongi Sights & Attractions
Mesolongi is a beautiful small town famous for its sea lake, formed by the endings of two rivers. This sea lake with the many vivariums is the main source of income for the locals. Although Mesolongi is not a tourist-developed place, it has many interesting sites. On the mountain slopes above Mesolongi is the Monastery of Saint Symeon with historical importance. The Garden of Heroes in the center of the town is a nice place to walk around, hosting monuments of heroes from the Greek Revolution of 1821. Sea Lake

Tourlida islet
OtherThe islet of Tourlida is located in the infamous lagoon of Mesolongi, 5 km from the main town, within a natural setting of unique beauty and environmental significance. It is named after “tourlides”, a bird species that used to nest in its grounds.
Garden of Heroes
MonumentsThe Garden of the Heroes in Mesolongi was created in 1829 with the decision of Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first governor of Greece. It is dedicated to the heroes of the Greek Revolution. Tombs and statues of many heroes and people who died in the Exodus are found there.
Monastery of Saint Simeon
ChurchesLocated 8 km from Mesolongi, the Monastery of Saint Simeon was built in 1740, during the Ottoman rule. As it served as a shelter for Greek fighters, it was burnt down by Turkish troops. After the Greek war of Independence, the monastery was rebuilt in 1836.

Museum of History and Art
MuseumsThe Museum of History and Arts- Municipal Gallery is housed in the old Town Hall of Mesolongi, Botsari square. It displays paintings of Greek and foreign painters with scenes from the historical Exodus, maps, gravures, weapons, statues of prime-ministers from Mesolongi and other items. There is also a special room dedicated to Lord Byron.
Vasso Katraki Museum
MuseumsThe Museum of Vasso Katraki- Centre of Engraving Art is located in the birthplace of the artist, Etoliko. The museum is found at the edge of the lake. It houses the work of this important engraver on the first floor and a workshop for engraving on the ground floor.
