Arachova Town, Sterea Greece: A mountainous town in mainland Greece, only 2 and a half hours drive from Athens, Arachova is the most popular winter destination in Greece. Due to its natural beauty, the traditional landscape and the close ski centre, Arachova receives many visitors particularly in the period of Christmas. Tourist development is high in winter, with luxury hotels, spa hotels and even wooden chalets in the forests, traditional restaurants with delicious dishes, gift shops and shops with ski equipment.

Built at an altitude of 980 metres, Arachova stands on the slopes of Mount Parnassus and only 8 km from the archaeological site of Delphi, the centre of the world according to the myth. Its traditional architecture distinguishes for the paved streets, the stone houses, the small balconies and the lovely squares. At the entrance of Arachova, there is a lovely bridge with panoramic view to the mountain slopes and the Gulf of Itea.

Apart from a popular winter destination, Arachova is also a historical place. An important battle took place there during the Greek Revolution, when the Greek hero Georgios Karaiskakis sieged the Turks and set the town free. Every year, on the name day of Saint George (Agios Georgios), there is a large festival in Arachova, celebrating this historical event and the protector saint of the town. Horse races are organized and there is a Holy Mass in the beautiful church of Agios Georgios, on the highest spot of the town.
