The churches in Arachova are a great attraction for the city and tourists can see the strong religious faith of the locals. Agios Georgios is the most important Byzantine church of Arachova and its saint patron located on top of the town, on the slopes of Mount Parnassus. The church exists since 1676 according to several historical pieces of evidence and its construction goes many years back. Visitors need to climb its 256 marble stairs in order to reach it. In the village of Distomo, outside Arachova lies the remarkable monastery of Agios Loukas, one of the finest examples of Byzantine architecture. It was founded by a monk, whose name the monastery carries and is home to several frescoes and icons.
At the center of Arachova, close to to the square stands the metropolis church of Agios Nikolaos. Its idyllic location with trekking paths, plane trees, and spring waters make it ideal for the festivals welcomes all visitors to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and the religious festivals that are held at the church every year. Looking up from the main street of Arachova one can also see the church of Agios Ioannis located beneath the edgy rock of Ora. It is worth a visit for its beautiful frescoes. Nearby is the chapel of Panagia Evagelistria.
The Monastery of Osios Loukas is a Byzantine monument located 30 km from Arachova, near Distomo. It was constructed in the 10th century and has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Monument.
The Byzantine church of Agios Georgios is built on top of a hill overlooking the town. Many stairs lead to this church, which is dedicated to the protector saint of Arachova.
