Arachova Sights & Attractions

The Monastery of Osios Loukas is a Byzantine monument located 30 km from Arachova, near Distomo. It was constructed in the 10th century and has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Monument.

The National Park of Mount Parnassos was created in 1938 and covers an area of 36 million sq.m. It is a nice area for trekking and birdwatching, found close to Arachova and Delphi.

The Ethnographic Museum of Arachova is housed in an old building of neoclassical style at a conspicuous location in the centre of today’s town, next to the impressive rock occupied by the clock tower of “Ora”.

The ski centers of Parnassos are the most popular close to Athens and get very busy in winter. There, visitors can practice skiing, snowboarding, and many other winter sports. The three ski centers are located at a distance of 10 to 30 km from Arachova.

The Byzantine church of Agios Georgios is built on top of a hill overlooking the town. Many stairs lead to this church, which is dedicated to the protector saint of Arachova.

A small church with traditional style, Agios Ioannis has many interesting frescoes inside. The architecture is different than normal churches in the area.

Located at a distance of 10 km from Arachova, the Corycian Cave, also known as Sarantavli, is plenty of stalactites and stalagmites. According to ancient geographer Pausanias, it was used as a temple devoted to the worshipping of the god Pan and the Nymphs.
