maria3423 20 Sep 2010Strong castle above townNice castle on a hill above the town. It gives great views of the island. It takes about 1-2 hours to see it, considering that you will also see the monastery of Saint George right beneath the castle. The entrance door is large and impressive and has a carved marble lion on it. It is amazing how many castles there are in Greece, isn't it? And most of them are so well-constructed that they have survived time very well. Inside the Castle of Skyros there are some ancient remains, which means that an ancient town used to be there.

ped543 13 Sep 2008Walk to the CastleThe capital is really the best village to stay on Skyros. The rest are small villages in the middle of nowhere, good only for a visit and some are difficult to go. You will love the walks around the narrow paths of Skyros and lying on the beach. You can go to the beach on foot, not far at all. Take a coffe at hand and walk to the Castle. From there, you will get great pictures.
