Skyros Magazia

General information

Magazia village Skyros: In just 10 or 15 minutes walk from Chora you will find the charming village of Magazia. Magazia took its name from the gun powder magazines, which used to operate in this place during the Venetian times. This village is gifted with one of the most beautiful, sandy beaches on Skyros.

The coastal resort of Magazia is being developed faster and faster in the last years and during summer, there is a tourist rush in this place. There are plenty of rooms, studios and apartments to choose for your stay in Magazia, which are situated even 100 meters away from the bay. The area has many restaurants and cafe bars, too. Because of the numerous facilities available, Magazia can be the base from which other parts of the island can be further explored.

On the northern part of the village there are numerous caves and churches, that look like houses carved into the rocks. You can visit many churches here, like Agios Georgios at Perasmata. However, the waves can be very strong and as a result the shoreline is slightly eaten away year after year. Also, the ruins of a concrete seawall can be seen semi-submerged in the water.
