Skiathos Tourism

Skiathos is the busiest of the Sporades Islands, famous for its endless beaches, lush greenery, and vivid nightlife. Tourism in Skiathos is very well-developed, however, it has not lost its traditional character, still prevalent in its authentic architecture present in Skiathos Town.

There is a port office in Skiathos where tourists can collect all the necessary information for their vacation. Tourists can also seek information from several travel agencies found in the port. Furthermore, there is a tourist police offering immediate assistance to tourists for any problems that might occur during their stay.

Skiathos hosts a variety of accommodation options, from high-end luxury hotels to small apartments and seaside villas. Most accommodations are found in Skiathos Town, putting you close to all the different points of interest, from historical landmarks to copious bars and restaurants. Many hotels also offer easy access to some of the most beautiful beaches in the area and provide beautiful views of the sea. Visitors can choose to stay in the various hotels that have respected the traditional architecture of the island for the utmost experience.

The natural landscapes of Skiathos are dominated by rugged mountains, lush forests, and gorgeous bays. Along the coasts of the island, you will find many wonderful beaches, both organized and secluded, depending on the area. Koukounaries and Lalaria are two of the most popular beaches, featuring shimmering azure waters surrounded by lush vegetation. Kanapitsa and Banana are wonderfully organized and offer plenty of watersport opportunities. Meanwhile, Glyfoneri and Kalamaki are much more isolated and perfect for some moments of peace and tranquility.

Skiathos Town is the busiest destination on the island, characterized by traditional white-washed houses that are built around the idyllic bay. A stroll around the picturesque town unlocks its scenic beauty, while one can easily get lost in its small alleys and charming neighborhoods. Many historically significant sites can be found throughout the Town, such as the House of Papadiamantis and the ancient ruins in Bourtzi. Skiathos Town also features an electrifying nightlife, with many bars and seaside restaurants available, as well as plenty of nightclubs that stay open until the early morning hours.

Visitors can move around the island by public bus, with frequent bus routes passing through the Town as well as Koukounaries, Xanemos, and Evangelistria Monastery. You can also opt to call a taxi in most central spots which, while a more expensive option, is also more convenient for exploring the island. Finally, renting a car is the easiest way of exploring the island at your own pace and accessing some of the more secluded areas.

Reaching the island is possible by both flights and ferries. In fact, the international airport of Skiathos is pretty close to the port.
To get the ultimate experience from tourism in Skiathos, combine your stay with a visit to the nearby islands of Skopelos and Alonissos since ferries connect the three frequently.
