The Church of Taxiarches is located just 500 meters from the Church of Evangelistria. Built at an altitude of about 200 meters, it is unknown exactly when it was constructed. The earliest mentions of the church date to around the end of the 18th century. Today the church’s defining feature is its natural source of crystal-clear water, which inhabitants of the island use for their everyday needs.
The exterior of the church features stone features and roof tiling. Inside you will find a wooden iconostasis featuring a collection of vibrant icons depicting important religious figures. The surrounding area boasts some lush greenery while a few meters from the natural water source lies a beautiful tank full of goldfish.
Since the church was built in honor of the Taxiarches, i.e. Archangels Michael and Gabriel, it celebrates every year on their feast day, November 8th.
