Location: Town

The Church of Panagia Limnia is located in the southern part of Skiathos Town, just 300 meters from Plakes Beach. It was founded in 1829 by islanders who originated from the area of Limni in Evia, hence the name Limnia. Having migrated during the late 18th century, the Limnians brought with them the holy icon of the Nativity of Mary. The icon would be housed in the small church of Agios Charalambos which was renovated and expanded, becoming the Parish Church of Panagia Limnia.

Today, the church stands out for its traditional architecture, stone features, and imposing bell tower. It is a basilica with three naves, a typical construction for churches of the time. The interior is adorned with rich decorations, vibrant frescoes, and unique murals. An inscription informs visitors that the church was built by the Greek architect Theodoros Moschos and financed by ship owners and anonymous citizens. Its two beautiful iconostases bear golden accents and feature icons of various saints and religious figures. The icon of the Nativity of Mary is proudly displayed, distinguished by its intricate composition depicting many different figures.
