Skiathos Sights & Attractions

Bourtzi is a tiny peninsula separating the old from the new port of Skiathos. A fortress was built there in the 13th century. Housing a cultural center, it is a popular place for rest and recreation.

The sea caves on the northern side of Skiathos can be reached by tour boats from the Town. The landscape has a wild beauty and the crystalline waters take on lovely turquoise hues.

The Castle of Skiathos is located on the northern side of the island, accessible either by boat or through a track road. It is a medieval castle town, built on a naturally fortified rocky cliff. In the area, there are remnants of old structures.

The Monastery of Panagia Evangelistria is located amidst a vegetated area. It was built in the early 19th century and has great historical importance for the island, as it contributed to the Greek War of Independence.

Behind Koukounaries Beach stretches a biotope of unique natural beauty, consisting of a rare pine-tree forest and a tranquil lagoon. It is home to numerous bird species, among which figure majestic white and black swans.

This museum was the home of Alexandros Papadiamantis, an important Greek writer who lived there in the 19th century. Located in Skiathos Town, it exhibits the writer’s personal items, as well as many folklore pieces.

Skiathitiko Spiti is a traditional 20th-century house that serves as a museum preserving the history and traditions of the island, through exhibits of vintage furnishings, household items, family heirlooms, and old photographs.

The Skiathos Museum of Naval Tradition is housed inside the Municipal Cultural Center, on the idyllic Bourtzi peninsula. Consisting of over 600 pieces, its rich permanent collection narrates the centuries-old maritime and shipbuilding tradition of Skiathos.

The Monastery of Panagia Ikonistra (or Kounistra) is located in a mountainous area of lush greenery. Built in the 17th century, this church is the protector of Skiathos. The katholicon has nice frescoes of the 18th century.

The church of the Three Bishops is the Cathedral of Skiathos Town. It was constructed in 1846 and it has a tall bell tower. Some beautiful icons are housed in this church.

The church of Agios Nikolaos is painted in white and has a remarkable tall clock tower.

The Church of Taxiarches is a charming religious site in proximity to the more imposing Church of Evangelistria, lying amidst a beautiful lush landscape.

In excellent condition to this day, the abandoned Monastery of Agios Charalambos offers enthralling views of the surrounding green landscapes and the glistening waters of the Aegean.

Just south of the Airport of Skiathos, amidst an olive grove,  lies the small Church of Agios Georgios, boasting a humble, stone-built exterior.

Also known as the Magic Forest, the Kechria Woods is a verdant oasis with centuries-old trees and aromatic herbs that create a fairy-tale landscape. It is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature in undisturbed tranquility.

This church was founded after the Greek Revolution of 1821 by inhabitants who originated from the area of Limni in Evia. It houses religious relics, frescoes, and the beautiful icon of the Nativity of Mary.
