General information

Set against a background of verdant hills on the northwestern coast of Skiathos, Mandraki is an enchanting sandy cove with mesmerizing light-blue waters. Though there is a cantine and a few umbrellas and sunbeds, it is one of the most serene beaches on the entire island, and it is the perfect place for profound relaxation, as the lush vegetation and the immensity of the sea have a wonderfully soothing effect. Just bear in mind that it is exposed to the northern winds, so the sea is bound to be choppy on windy days.

To get there, you can get up to a certain point either by car or by bus. After that, the paved road gives its place to a thick pine-tree forest, so you will have to proceed on foot for around 2 kilometers. Eventually, you will reach a junction where three paths branch off to Mandraki, Agistros and Elia, and you will have to choose which of these three lovely beaches you want to explore first. Hiking to Mandraki is greatly recommended as the route is spectacular and highly rewarding. Alternatively, you can also reach the beach via an excursion boat from Skiathos Port, which is also very enjoyable.

Bonus info: This beach is also known as Xerxes, as, according to the local tradition, the Persian ruler’s fleet dropped anchor here when campaigning against the Greek city-states.

    Mandrake Beach - Update

The overview provided by Greeka.com is a little out of date: The beach does appear to be managed in part. Areas of the beach have managed beds and umbrellas whilst other areas are not. There is a basic but great Taverna on the beach that does have toilets available to everyone. The Taverna has a small but good selection of food and drink. There is some small arena at the far end of the beach which is used by nudists, this was not a problem on such a quiet beautiful beach.
