General information

Megalos Mourtias is a small beach on the southwestern coast of Alonissos, just 2 km from Chora. It is a pebbly beach, like most of the beaches in Alonissos, with crystal blue waters that run relatively calm. The surrounding landscape is dominated by rocky hills adorned with lush pine trees, which protect the waters from the strong winds.

Megalos Mourtias is well organized, offering visitors sunbeds and umbrellas for rent. A couple of restaurants lie just behind the shore and serve delicious Greek dishes, from high-quality seafood to fresh salad. There are also some rooms to let in the area, allowing guests quick access to the idyllic beach.

Less than 5 km separates Megalos Mourtias from Patitiri, making it easily accessible by car. If you are making your stay in Chora, you can also walk to the beach, with a short hiking trail leading you directly to its shore. West of Megalos Mourtias lies the smaller Mikros Mourtias, a more secluded beach that is often preferred by naturists.
