MORE ABOUT ALONISSOS GREECE

Alonissos is part of the Sporades complex of islands. Carpeted with lush greenery and boasting many beautiful beaches, the island is characterized by its gorgeous nature. It is ideal for relaxing holidays and manages to keep its peaceful charm even during the high season!

Alonissos is dotted with many quaint little villages. Chora, also known as the Old Town of Alonissos, is one of the most beautiful, presenting traditional buildings and old churches along narrow alleys. Patitiri is the capital and main port of the island and offers most of the tourist facilities, while the villages of Steni Vala and Votsi are perfect for an evening walk and a lovely meal in a seaside tavern.

The beaches of Alonissos are one of its main standouts, renowned for their wild beauty and enchanting atmosphere. Agios Dimitrios is by far the most popular, boasting white sand and azure waters, along with plenty of facilities. The beaches of Chrisi Milia and Roussom Gialos are also among the top swimming spots, while Glyfa and Agios Petros are more isolated and usually less busy.

The National Marine Park of Alonissos is the largest marine protected area in Europe and includes many nearby islets. It is a significant breeding ground for various species of birds, reptiles, and mammals, including the rare Mediterranean Monk Seal, or Monachus Monachus. Those inclined can visit some of these protected areas and discover the stunning marine life and beautiful aquatic environments of the Saronic.
Other attractions one can visit include numerous churches, the local folklore museum and the shipwreck of Peristera.

An impressive network of hiking trails crosses the island, allowing visitors to freely explore its lush environments and rugged coastlines. If you are in the mood for a quick trip, you can get a boat from Patitiri to many of the small islets surrounding the island. Thanks to its proximity to the rest of the islands of the Sporades, Alonissos is also a great base for island hopping to the nearby Skopelos and Skiathos!

If you are looking for a natural haven to get away from it all, Alonissos is an island that should be on your bucket list!
