Even though the main source of income for the islanders is tourism, some inhabitants are farmers and fishermen, contributing to the primary production of the island and supplying the local restaurants and shops with high-quality raw materials. The main products of Spetses include grapes, figs, olives, olive oil, cereals, and almonds. The number of stock farmers is limited, so the production of livestock-related products is also limited.
The most famous local product of Spetses is the amygdaloto. That is a small sweet made from marzipan, topped with caster sugar.
It is a common sweet among Saronic and Cycladic Islands, but the way it is made in Spetses makes it last longer without spoiling, as it lacks butter and eggs.
