GENERAL INFORMATION
Hydra is a very charming Saronic Island and a top holiday destination for Greeks and foreigners alike.
The picturesque and elegant Hydra Town, the exquisite waters at the beaches, the lively nightlife, the many places of cultural and historical interest and its proximity to Athens are the top reasons why people select the island for their holidays.
The island is considered a cosmopolitan destination. with many celebrities choosing it for their vacation or a getaway.
However, the islanders have not allowed the development of tourism to alter their enticing home. That is why gigantic hotel units with vast premises are not part of the local tourist infrastructure.
The most common type of accommodations in Hydra are boutique hotels and guesthouses which used to serve as residencies. Many old mansions have been renovated internally and now work as accommodations retaining the noble flair of the past.
Hydra Town is home to almost all accommodations, but a few places to stay are located in Mandraki and Vlichos. In Mandraki, specifically, one can find the most luxurious hotel on the island - Mandraki Beach Resort.
Lastly, note that staying in Hydra is pricey, especially during the high season. Not all hotels and accommodations are extremely expensive, but in no case can the island be characterized as a budget-friendly destination. People who want to see the island but do not want to spend much money per overnight stay are recommended to either visit during the shoulder- or low season or book a hotel in another place that is connected to the island via ferry, like Poros or Ermioni.
