Agistri Tourism

Tourism in Agistri was largely developed due to its close distance to Athens. For a long time, Agistri remained overshadowed by its neighboring cosmopolitan islands. Today, the small and unspoiled island has become a tourist destination itself. Every summer it is visited by many Athenians and tourists arriving by ferry from Piraeus and Aegina.

Considering its size, Agistri is well-developed with some modern amenities, beautiful beaches, and picturesque settlements. The laid-back atmosphere and natural ambiance of the island have made it a sought-after destination for those seeking a relaxing getaway.

Skala and Megalochori are the two biggest villages, offering a variety of facilities, including restaurants, cafes, and many local shops. The traditional taverns of the island are a must-visit, providing guests with authentic Mediterranean flavors. Many seaside bars can be found in Skala, ideal for enjoying a refreshing drink with views of the glistening blue sea. For a livelier experience, you can visit the handful of nightclubs that stay open till the early morning hours. Agistri’s metropolitan areas also host plenty of accommodations, from luxurious hotels on the waterfront to chic apartments and studios.

A large part of the island is covered by a dense pine forest, presenting visitors with an enchanting natural environment. Some hiking trails cross the woods and provide the perfect opportunity for nature enthusiasts to explore the lush landscapes of Agistri. The many lovely beaches spread throughout the island accentuate its natural beauty and are some of the most pristine and remote in all of the Saronic. Dragonera is one of the most popular, boasting crystalline waters surrounded by beautiful green hills. The secluded Aponissos Beach, located opposite the homonymous Aponissos Islet, is another must-not-miss.

Visitors can move around the island by public bus, with daily routes departing from Skala and passing through Megalochori, Dragonera, Limenaria, and Aponissos. Taxis are also available but very scarce, as there are only two operating taxis on the island, one in Skala and one in Megalochori. Finally, renting a private vehicle is the easiest way of moving around the island at your own pace and accessing some of the more secluded areas. There are a few car rental agencies available in Megalochori and Skala.

There is a port office in the port of Megalochori where tourists can collect information. There is no tourist police available, only a police station.
