Agistri Church of the Virgin Mary

Location: Metochi

The beautiful Church of the Virgin Mary is located in the small village of Metochi, just south of Skala. It is accessible through some trekking paths and the whole route is ideal for hiking. Its fabulous location on top of a hill offers a breathtaking view of the sea and the surrounding mountains.

The church is white and blue with roof tiling and its architecture is reminiscent of the Cycladic style. A small cemetery is found next to it, and a small courtyard lies in front of it. A large celebration is held here every year on August 15th, in honor of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary. Many pilgrims hike up to the church to pay their respects, before visiting the local taverns and enjoying a splendid feast.
