Mystras has a rather continental climate and the weather sometimes tends to change suddenly. Between April and early October, the weather is quite hot and it is getting even hotter in summer months, when temperatures can reach 35-40o C. That is why you should carry a hat, bottles of water and flat shoes, in order to visit the mountainous area of ancient Mystras.
Most rains fall in the following months, from mid-October to March. Therefore, it would be a good idea to take some rain gear with you; you are advised to do so even if you visit the area in summer, just in case. Winter in Mystras can be very cold, even freezing, and Mt Taygetos is usually covered by snow in this season of the year. Take these simple pieces of advice into account and choose the right period for you to stroll around the ancient relics!
