Museums in Mystras

The Byzantine town of Mystras is considered itself a living museum with a vast collection of treasures and cultural monuments. In the courtyard of Agios Dimitrios Cathedral lies the beautiful Mystras Museum. The two-storey building offers an impressive tour around its excellent findings. The collection consists of sculptures, manuscripts, jewelry, costumes and rare pieces of clothing.

Ecclesiastical items from the Byzantine period are added to the long list of exhibits in the historical museum. A walk in the surrounded region will complete this fascinating tour in Mystras. Apart from the museum's permanent exhibition, there are two sections housing the iconostasis of Pantanassa Church and the iconostasis of Katakouzinos family, one of the wealthiest families of Mystras.
