The Folklore Museum of Kyparissia, Peloponnese: The Folklore Museum of Kyparissia is housed in a renovated mansion right under the Medieval Castle of the town, in Ano Poli. Ano Poli is the neighborhood built on the slopes of the hill above the modern town of Kyparissia. The folklore museum is housed in the former Courthouse, where Christakis Palamas lived as sub-prefecture in the late 19th century.
Christakis Palamas was the brother of Kostis Palamas, one of the most important Greek poets of the 20th century. In fact, Kostis Palamas lived there for a year in 1881 when he studied at the university. The museum was named after the famous writer Folklore Museum Palamas.
This museum aims to preserve the cultural identity of the area. It hosts interesting folk items and in summer many exhibitions take place there. Various cultural events are also organized in the yard of the museum, such as lectures, theatrical performances or concerts. A cafeteria functions during these exhibitions and events.
