The Folklife & Ethnological Museum of Macedonia and Thrace is housed in the beautiful Villa Modiano. It studies and presents the traditional culture of Northern Greece over the centuries. It collects, preserves, and records the tangible evidence of this culture, and then exhibits the material to the public.

The museum hosts both permanent and temporary exhibitions. Its permanent exhibitions present the necessities of food, clothing and shelter. The exhibition "On the Mills of Macedonia and Thrace" was added in 2003 and highlights technology as a co-producer of culture. It features replicas of the hydraulic machines invented for grinding fruits and other manual tasks that freed people from toil. The "Traditional Clothing of Macedonia and Thrace from 1860 to 1960" Exhibition shows 55 traditional costumes and was added in 2009.

The goal behind the Folklife and Ethnological Museum’s vision is multi-faceted. It aims to introduce and familiarize people with the recent past and its culture and traditions, raise awareness regarding cultural heritage, preserve the memory of Greeks for their origin and understand and interpret - never underestimate - the importance of the past years and how they are intertwined with the present.
