Open on weekends and holidays, the Thessaloniki Dinosaur Park is the perfect place for vacationing families to visit. Located on the territory of a botanical garden on the road to Oraiokastro, it is recognized as the largest ecological and historical dinosaur park in Southeastern Europe, offering an experience that is equal parts fun and informative.
The park houses a number of different exhibits, each with a unique theme. Of course, there is the dinosaur park, featuring over 100 life-sized models of dinosaurs and reptiles from various geological periods, offering a first-hand look into what life on Earth looked like millions of years ago. Then there is the Mammoths Museum, displaying real fossils of the extinct Wooly Mammoths as well as other ice age animals and the Mammals Park with over 30 models of prehistoric mammals, many of which roamed Greece, as well as real findings and vestiges from these creatures. Finally, there is an exhibit of giant turtles, with fossils dating back around 50,000 years.
Besides the main exhibits, the park also boasts a number of additional services. Those include a sports center with closed and open facilities, a playground, a children’s pool in the presence of a lifeguard and a cafe/bar. There are also options for events such as children’s parties to be held there, while the park can also provide accommodation to visitors at a nearby hotel. Guided tours that take you around the park are offered as well and are ideal for those wanting a more educational experience with an in-depth look at all of the exhibits, provided by a trained tour guide.
