Location: Toumba Don't miss: Museums guide (free admission dates and other useful info)
The Children’s Museum of Thessaloniki is housed inside the Toumba Cultural Center, located in proximity to the Toumba Stadium. Established in 1997, this modern museum aims to preserve and showcase items indicative of the lives of children through the years. At the same time, it works to create an educational environment where children can expand their creativity, broaden their knowledge, and cultivate empathy and awareness.
The museum hosts an impressive library, with children’s literature, encyclopedias, magazines, and other books dating from 1920 til the present day. The exhibit of toys takes visitors through the evolution of dolls throughout the decades, both of Greek and international origins. There is also a display of tin and wind-up toys and a recreation of a 1940s classroom that offers an authentic look into the school life of the era. A variety of educational programs and events are held by the museum as well, from history lessons to interactive experiences and games.
