Location: Egnatia

The Church of Agios Charalambos lies in the center of Thessaloniki, vertical to Egnatia Street and just 350 meters from the church of Agia Sofia. Constructed in 1905 on the site of an older church, it is a dependency of the Monastery of Simonopetra on Mount Athos. The church is single-aisled and features a narthex, which was added in 1970.

The church was renovated in 2004 and 2005 to create a more modern infrastructure and better conditions for the service of the monks and pilgrims who visit it. Today, it presents a colorful exterior, in shades of red, yellow, and white. Inside you can see a collection of post-Byzantine icons housed in a stunning wooden iconostasis, along with some colorful frescoes.

The Church of Agios Charalambos welcomes people every day from 07:00 to 12:00 and 17:00 to 19:00. Visitors are asked to respect the church’s dress code.
