General information

CHANTH (YMCA) Square took its name from the Young Men’s Christian Association (abbreviated to CHANTH in Greek), which is located there. Otherwise known as YMCA Park, this beautiful public space lies close to the Thessaloniki Waterfront and just 300 meters from the White Tower. It is one of the most popular meeting spots in the city among locals and visitors alike and a bustling cultural hub.

The square boasts a large, open space with lots of trees and lush greenery. At one of the entrances, there is a beautiful fountain with a sleek and modern design. Some of its most prominent features are the statues of notable historical figures, including those of Emmanuel Pappas, Manolis Andronikos, and Ion Dragoumis. A playground for the younger visitors and a calisthenics park for fans of working out are also available. A couple of nice cafes and restaurants are found in and around CHANTH Square as well, allowing you to grab a bite or a drink and take in the wonderful atmosphere of the area.

The Municipal Garden Theater is found in the middle of the square and often hosts cultural events, concerts, and theatrical performances. The large and impressive building of the Young Men’s Christian Association is located right next to the square and is surrounded by other Neoclassical buildings. Nearby, there is the YMCA Basketball Museum, the Aristoteleion Theater, and the Royal Theater of Thessaloniki. The Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki is also situated just 200 meters from the square.
