Thessaloniki is the second-largest city in Greece and the largest and most populated in the region of Macedonia. It is built around the Thermaic Gulf and boasts a long history, dating back to antiquity. It is home to a plethora of sights, with its trademark attraction being the White Tower, as well as several hotels and places to eat and drink. It is also the ideal base for exploring the northern part of Greece, especially if you have your own vehicle.

Where is Thessaloniki? A distance of 303 km (in a straight line) separates Thessaloniki from Athens. The popular Halkidiki lies some kilometers away from the city, while Thassos is the closest island destination (even though the two are not connected).
Thessaloniki has an international airport, as well as a port playing a major role in terms of commerce and transportation.
