As the most populated city in northern Greece, Thessaloniki offers a large variety of restaurants, bars, and clubs. Places to eat and drink in Thessaloniki are spread in all neighborhoods, although the most famous venues lie within walking distance from Aristotle Square, the most central spot of the city. The most renowned quarter with places to eat in Thessaloniki is Ladadika, an old neighborhood that has become a nightlife spot. Taverns in Ladadika have a traditional style and many live music nights with rebetiko musicians. Such taverns are also found in the quarter of Ano Poli (Old Town).
Due to the large student community, restaurants, clubs, and bars are open all year round. The most famous bars are situated in Aristotle Square and along the waterfront, staying open until late and playing loud music.
