Thessaloniki Epanomi beach

General information

Epanomi is a suburb town about 31 km south of Thessaloniki and 55 km from Halkidiki. This settlement possesses a unique history, as it is the second oldest settlement in Macedonia, after Angelochori. Today, it is a favorite among locals and tourists for its tranquil atmosphere and the lovely Epanomi Beach.

Epanomi Beach, also known as Potamos Beach, is located roughly 4.5 km southwest of the center of the settlement. It has a long sandy coast and crystalline waters that are relatively shallow. The sea is particularly warm and suitable for a nice swim. The steady winds that the area sees also make this an ideal destination for windsurfing and kitesurfing. One part of the beach is well-developed, offering sunbeds and umbrellas, and is usually pretty crowded. The other part remains untouched, providing beach-goers with a more laid-back experience.

One of the most impressive features of the area is the old shipwreck that can be seen from the shore. This partially submerged cargo ship is dated to the 1970s and adds an air of mystery and intrigue to the beach. On the northern side of the beach lie saltwater ponds and wetlands, where one might see various migratory bird species. There is also a small park, where beach-goers can rest and take in the wonderful seaside ambiance amidst lush greenery.

With plenty of accommodation options, taverns, and cafeterias, Epanomi is a comfortable resort and a popular destination for travelers. The town is frequently connected to Thessaloniki by bus. From Epanomi, you can also access the beaches of Halkidiki with relative ease, making this a kind of connection center between Halkidiki and Thessaloniki.
