Location: Sivros Don't miss: Museums guide (free admission dates and other useful info)
The Fabbrica Olive Museum is located in the picturesque village of Syvros, about 31.5 km south of Lefkada Town. The museum is housed in an old olive oil factory that belongs to the Tsarlambas family and dates to the early 1800s. The factory is part of a larger building complex that also features houses, stables, and an old wood oven. The oil factory remained in operation until the mid-1970s. It was restored and converted into a museum in 2003 and welcomes visitors to this day.
The main goal of the museum is to familiarize visitors with the historic significance and underlying culture of olive oil, along with the old traditional techniques of its production. An impressive collection of artifacts, machinery, and photographs is housed in the museum, painting a holistic picture of the evolution of olive oil production on the island. At the same time, visitors are encouraged to try local products in a designated tasting area after a traditional tasting ritual is performed. Such products include extra virgin olive oil, excellent quality Kalamata olives, and a variety of marmalades and jams.
Opening hours vary depending on the time of year. Those interested in visiting can go to the Fabbrica Olive Museum’s official website to check availability. You can also visit the museum upon request from November 1st until April 30th.
