Kakia Lagada Gorge in Kythira starts from the village of Trifyllianika and ends at the homonym Kakia Lagada Beach, from which the notorious pirate Barbarossa invaded the island.
This gorge is the longest on the island and passes by the now-abandoned Castle of Paleochora. That was the island’s former capital, situated on the northernmost part of a cliff in the middle of the gorge.
Note that hiking or canyoning Kakia Lagada Gorge is challenging and only recommended to experienced people, as the terrain is difficult and the route requires climbing skills.
