hilary.williams1 08 Feb 2010Beaches not to missOn the north of Kefalonia, I found two stunning beaches. The first, Emblisi, was approached down a side road, outside the village of Fiscardo. Tree clad cliffs surrounded this small, white pebbled cove. The waters were perfect for snorkelling around the rocky headland. I never found the beach too crowded and consequently could relax for a few hours. There was a snack van parked at the top of the beach serving tasty baguettes and toasted sandwiches, made to order, with a choice of fillings.
The second gem I found was in Antipata. I drove down past Ta Pefka taverna and left my car at the entrance to the wood. The footpath wound down hill through the trees. Lizards scuttled over the rocks and spiders were on guard in their webs, which were stretched across the path. After about 10 minutes, the path came out on to another perfect beach. This was my favourite beach on Kephalonia. Often completely deserted, similar landscape to Emblisi but with an extra cave to explore. I cannot think of a more perfect place to be. After tearing myself away, the taverna at the top of the road was perfect for lunch.
