Location: Agios Petros

Corfu Aquarium can be found right next to Agios Petros Beach in Paleokastritsa, about 25 km northwest of Corfu Town. First opening its doors in 2011, this family-run business aims to showcase the variety of sea life, reptiles, amphibians, and flora species found in the area as well as the rest of the Mediterranean Sea. At the same time, the Aquarium aims to preserve the local marine life and raise public awareness by educating visitors on the issue.

Many of the animals have been taken in by local fishermen, being cared for in case of injury or sickness before finding their home at the Aquarium. A walk through the expansive displays of tanks allows you to see some beautiful sea specimens firsthand. From seabass, cuttlefish, and lobsters to hermit crabs, colorful starfish, and even an octopus, the vast diversity of the marine life housed here is astonishing. Just after the tanks you will find specially designed terrariums containing species of amphibians and reptiles from all over the world. Those include snakes, turtles, lizards, chameleons, frogs, salamanders, and a large iguana that has become one of the aquarium’s most popular attractions.

Corfu Aquarium offers organized tours for those wanting to delve deeper into the marine world of the Mediterranean. Guests can learn interesting information about the creatures living inside the Aquarium as they are guided through the premises by a well-trained staff member. Equal parts informative, and fun, a trip to Corfu Aquarium is a must-not-miss, especially for vacationing families looking for an out-of-the-box activity.

The Aquarium is open from March until November, from 10:00 to 17:30.
