General information

Kokkini Beach is a secluded place on the northeastern coast of Tilos. Its name translates to “red” in Greek, a nod to the distinctive reddish hue of its sand, a result of iron deposits in the area.
The beach is known for its natural beauty and tranquil ambiance. The reddish sand, juxtaposed against the azure waters of the Aegean Sea, creates a striking visual contrast that captivates visitors. The beach is nestled in a small, south-facing bay, flanked by rocky formations offering shelter and a sense of privacy.

The clear calm waters of Kokkini Beach are perfect for swimming and snorkeling. The underwater landscape characterized by rocky outcrops and diverse marine life, offers an engaging experience for snorkelers. The beach’s seclusion also makes it a favored spot for sunbathing in peace, away from the crowds that frequent more accessible beaches.

Unlike more commercialized beaches, Kokkini remains largely untouched by modern development. There are no sunbeds, umbrellas, or beachfront tavernas, allowing it to preserve its pristine condition. This lack of facilities means visitors should come prepared with essentials such as water, snacks, and sun protection.

Hiking enthusiasts will appreciate the trails to and from Kokkini Beach. The paths not only provide access but also offer opportunities to explore the island’s flora and fauna.
