Rhodes Laerma

General information

The small traditional village of Laerma is located at the center of Rhodes, about 58 km southwest of Rhodes Town. It has been inhabited since the Pre-Hellenic period and its name is thought to be a false pronunciation of the ancient city of La Dharma. The village is accessible through a wonderful route from Lardos.

Laerma is built on the slopes of a hill and with numerous well-preserved old houses many of which have accentuated their beauty. Visitors can find accommodations in the neighboring tourist resorts of Lindos while there are a handful of taverns and restaurants serving delicious food in the area. Of note is the Italian-era building in the middle of the village that today functions as a school.

At a short distance of about 4 km southwest lies the Byzantine Thari Monastery. Built amidst impressive greenery, it is one of the largest monasteries in Rhodes and features hagiographies that date back to the 17th century.

Such a beautiful quaint little village…. The people are friendly and always happy to help or serve and greet you with their smile… simplistic lifestyle tendering to their olive groves or vege patches or animals. It’s simple it’s quiet and we love stopping in at their local hang out ‘Platonas’ … it’s a must to see the untouched beauty of this village.
