At first sight, Koskinou seems no different from other Rhodian villages, as it consists of two parts: the newer coastal area and the old village, which predates the 15th century AD. In the northwestern part of the settlement, it is even possible to note traces of the fortifications that used to serve as a refuge for the locals in case of enemy attacks during the Middle Ages.

What has earned Koskinou its fame, though, is the heavy wooden or iron doors of its traditional houses. Painted in a variety of vivid colors, they are adorned with elaborate relief or carved patterns and topped by stone-built, arched balconies overflowing with flowers. Walking through the labyrinthine narrow alleys is an unforgettable experience, allowing you to marvel at houses that vie with each other in beauty.

Another striking feature is the so-called hohlakia, elegant mosaics made with white and black stones that can be found everywhere in the village, including the central square. The highlight is definitely the Traditional House, which now functions as a small yet spectacular folklore museum. What is more, Koskinou is dotted with nice little chapels, the oldest of which, that of Agios Loukas, dates from the 4th century.

The modern part of Koskinou is considered one of the most popular destinations for family holidays in Rhodes and has numerous cafes and taverns, where you can enjoy delicious food and excellent wine.
