The Stamatiadis Mineralogy and Paleontology Museum is the first of its kind, both in Rhodes and within the greater area of the Dodecanese. It is housed on the ground floor of the Perla Marina aparthotel in Ialyssos, about 7 km from Rhodes Town, and features an impressive collection of naturally occurring specimens. It was established in 2008 with the intent to extend the mineralogical and paleontological experience way beyond the areas traditionally yielding minerals and contribute to the promotion of the science of Geology.

The exhibits of the Museum include various minerals and fossils that originate from many different regions of the country. Visitors will be able to witness stunning specimens of Azurite, Malachite, Obsidian and Quartz among others. The minerals found here come from places such as Naxos, Milos and Serifos, while there is also an exhibit of minerals that are native to the island of Rhodes. A separate exhibition houses fossilized organisms dating back millions of years, with the fossilized remains of fish that were found in Brazil, as well as a crocodile’s skull dating to the Miocene Period being particularly of note.

From the very beginning, the Museum aimed to deliver a learning experience for everyone, whether student or erudite, experienced researcher or simple visitor. Students in particular can make use of the Museum’s valuable information and relevant documentation for their school projects and papers. The Stamatiadis Mineralogy and Paleontology Museum is open every day, from 10:00 to 15:00 and 18:00 to 20:00.
