General information

Built in the heart of a lovely bay, Grikos is a quaint fishing village which is gradually developing into a tourist resort. A small marina for pleasure crafts adds to its unpretentious beauty, while the main attractions in the area are the magnificent sandy Grikos Beach and Petra (Stone) Beach, the latter of which owes its name to an impressive rock formation known as the Kalikatsou Rock. Just opposite the village lies the uninhabited islet of Tragonisi (Goat Island), which usually keeps Grikos Bay sheltered from strong winds.

Around the village, visitors will find some hotels and rental apartments, as well as seaside taverns serving delicious local recipes. A large part of the 4-kilometer-long road leading from Skala to Grikos runs along the coast, regaling travelers with amazing views. Buses run frequently from the port to Grikos, but hikers will also find the route highly rewarding if they choose to walk. The wider area of Grikos offers some nice hiking paths too; heading south, visitors will have the chance to see the traditional shipyard of Patmos and the Chapel of the Holy Cross.
