Location: Skala

The small Baptistery of Saint John the Theologian is located in the port town of Skala. With an idyllic location close to the sea, the church stands out with its beautiful, all-white exterior. The thing that distinguishes this church from others is the ruins of the old Baptistery that were found right next to it. It is believed that this is where Saint John baptized the citizens of Patmos after his exile to the island.

The gate surrounding the church features a plaque that dates the historic baptistery to 96 A.D. Before they enter the church, visitors will also note a small mosaic depicting the end of the magician Kynopas, who was said to have been sent to the bottom of the sea by Saint John. Inside there is a quaint wooden iconostasis decorated with some flowers as well as a spot for visitors to light a candle.
