About 4 km east of Chora, close to the bay of Sapsila, lies the idyllic Loukakia Beach. Next to the lush greenery and turquoise waters that define this heavenly spot, the imposing Hermitage of Agios Nektarios immediately stands out. This impressive building resembles an old medieval fortress in its architecture, consisting of stone walls, a small chapel, and a few cells.
The hermitage was founded in the 20th century by the prior Archimandrite Pavlos Nikitaras and Archimandrite Antipas. The icon of Agios Nektarios is housed inside the building, which is said to have miraculously shed tears a week before Turkey invaded Cyprus in 1974.
The hermitage celebrates on November 9th in memory of the Agios Nektarios.
It is open to visitors every day from 09:00 and 13:00 and from 16:00 to 19:00.
