General information

Platanos Village Leros: Platanos is a well-developed settlement located between the town of Agia Marina and Panteli. All theses three cities are considered as one, and constitute the capital of Leros. Platanos is the historical and cultural centre of the island with numerous Neoclassical buildings embellishing this town, shops and historical monuments. Over the years, the village offers a good tourist infrastructure with nice accommodations and tourist units, nevertheless it retains a traditional character and layout that impresses all visitors.

Authentic houses and narrow alleys decorate the entire village of Platanos and create a charming scenery. Around the central sqaure are many shops, local services and modern amenities. A road will lead you on top of the hill where the Castle of Panagia stands. Today, the 11th century byzantine fortress is one of the best sightseeings of Leros. Numerous churches are spread in the village like the Holy Cross found right under the castle and the church of Evangelistria. A couple of km from Platanos is the Archaeological Museum of Leros.

    Platanos was amazing

Platanos was amazing - like everything at this beautiful island. We ate great Gyros there and enjoyed our holidays without meeting hundreds of tourists from Austria, Germany,....... only friendly Greek people. Wonderful. My dream is, to live on Leros in a few years....
