Kos Cycling

Kos is a melting pot of unique cultural landmarks, archaeological sights, natural wonders, and gorgeous landscapes. One of the best and most affordable ways of exploring the scenic island is through cycling, a favorite local pastime that dates back over 100 years. In fact, during the Italian occupation of the island, Italian soldiers regularly used bicycles as a means of transport. The inhabitants adopted the hobby and it has been a popular activity among locals and tourists ever since, lending Kos the title “the island of bicycles”.

In 2022, Kos received the “Bike Friendly Destination” certification by the non-profit company Nattour, in association with the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature. This distinction certifies that the island meets a set of European-accepted criteria that make it particularly cycling-friendly. The most important of those criteria is the existence of many cycling routes within the Municipality, which are fit for every level of cyclist.
