The Psalidi Wetland is located 5 km east of Kos Town, in proximity to Psalidi Beach. This unspoiled natural haven is created by two streams that flow into the coast of Psalidi and form a sizeable lake. Unlike the surrounding areas, the wetlands remain untouched by modern tourist infrastructures and feature gorgeous lush greenery. Because of this, the area also hosts a rich diversity of flora and fauna, creating a uniquely beautiful ecosystem.
Of special interest are the dozens of migratory birds seeking refuge in the wetlands until spring comes along. These include the little egret, grey heron, and western marsh harrier. Hundreds of wild ducks are also found in the region, as are sea turtles and some flamingos during the winter. The varied flora of the wetland includes colorful flowers, shrubbery, bamboo, wet meadows, halophytic vegetation, and the Aegean brushwood.
Several paths have been created to allow easy access to the wetlands. Trails run along the lake and will take you through a thorough tour of the area, allowing you to take in all of its natural beauty and enjoy the serene atmosphere. Some sections of the paths are shaded by a canopy of eucalyptus trees, providing a much-needed break from the sun.
