Location: Tigaki

Alykes Wetland is nestled between Marmari and Tigaki, 13 km south of Kos Town. This Natura 2000-protected area features a heart-shaped salt lake surrounded by a vast green field and is home to a rich variety of flora and fauna. Pelicans, herons, water turtles, and snakes can be found in the region. In the winter the wetland is also blessed by hundreds of migrating flamingos who seek refuge there until spring comes along.

There is a 4-kilometer-long trail around the lake, perfect for visitors who want to explore its unique beauty and take in the natural ambiance. Make sure to visit the area as the day begins to wind down and enjoy the beautiful sunset reflecting upon the glistening waters of the lake.
A horseback-riding center is located in the area, too.

It should be noted that the lake dries out during the summer, leaving behind an all-white surface from the remaining salt.
