The chapel of Agios (Saint) Mamas is located on the southernmost tip of the island, about 50 km southwest of Kos Town and 11 km south of Kefalos. This quaint religious building is instantly recognizable by its stunning white and light blue exterior. Perched atop a lush green hill, it offers gorgeous panoramic views of the glistening waters of the Aegean.
The small church houses a collection of religious icons, including one of Saint Mamas, the protector of shepherds and animals. However, the church is closed except during the festival held on the 28th and 29th of August.
The journey from the Kefalos to the chapel should not take more than 35 minutes and is very much worth it for the scenic beauty provided by its idyllic location. On the road to Agios Mamas, you will also pass by the lovely Agios Ioannis Monastery which is very much worth a visit.
