All villages in Karpathos keep their traditional style, some to more extent than others. Some seaside areas are more developed in terms of tourist infrastructure but don't lose their character. Mountainous and remote villages are the most authentic.
In brief, the picturesque Olympos is a village no one should miss, since people characterize it as an open-air folklore museum for a reason. Pigadia, the island's capital, are also worthy of a visit, as many points of interest are in or close to it.

Olympos
Location: 58 km northwest of Pigadia
Description: Olympos is a mountainous village with stone houses, probably the most beautiful on the island. When the clouds come down and cover the village, the atmosphere is dreamy.
Diafani
Location: 67 km north of Pigadia
Description: Diafani is a small tourist village close to Olympos. Located on the northern coast, Diafani is the second most important port on the island.
Pigadia
Location: On the southeastern side of Karpathos
Description: Pigadia is the capital and main port of the island. It stands on the location of ancient Potidaion, whose ruins can still be seen on top of the hill overlooking the port. This is a nice base from which to explore the beaches and villages of Karpathos.

Othos
Location: 12 km northwest of Pigadia

Aperi
Location: 8 km north west of Pigadia
Description: Aperi used to be the old capital of the island. Hidden by high slopes, Aperi was not used from the sea, so it was a protected area against pirates in the Medieval times. Today, it is a small village with typical architecture.
