Karpathos Apella beach

General information

The magical Apella Beach lies 19 km north of Pigadia, the capital of Karpathos. The beach is coiled up in a picturesque cove and boasts a long stretch of fine white sand bordering the azure and incredibly clean waters.

Pine trees are blended with the rocks surrounding the beach, composing a one-of-a-kind exotic setting. Some trees drop right down to the shore, offering some nice shady spots to relax under. There are also plenty of umbrellas and sunbeds available to rent. The cleanliness of the waters makes this the perfect snorkeling destination, allowing you to explore the depths of the beautiful sea. It should be noted that the beach tends to get pretty crowded during summer.

There is a traditional tavern just above the beach that serves authentic Greek dishes and refreshing drinks. The beach of Kyra Panagia also lies relatively close and offers even more amenities, including some accommodation options.

The easiest way to reach Apella Beach is by car, with the trip from Pigadia taking no more than 35 minutes. If you do not have access to a private vehicle, you can also take a boat that departs regularly from the harbor of Pigadia.

    Beach with beautiful colors
Pebbled, very long beach, with cold, crystal clear water. Water also has an amazing color, you just can't stop looking at it and taking pictures. This beach is good for those who like to swim. In the afternoon, you won't need umbrella cause there is natural shades from big rocks. It is a bit windy so if you bring your own umbrella, you will have trouble putting it on the ground, but we managed. It is a bit far from Amoopi where we stayed, but the road is good. Parking is a bit tricky, but we always found a spot. Beach is beautiful and definitely worth visiting.

More organized than other beaches on the island
Apela is one of the few organized beaches of Karpathos, along with Amopi. Do not imgazine any beach bars and great luxuries, just a dozen of umbrellas and some taverns. The other beaches of Karpathos are totally isolate, although they are very nice. Apela has sand and a few pebbles once you get into the sea. The water is clean. To go there, you definitely need a car because buses do not go. Or go by boat from Pigadia.
