General information

Achata Beach is located on the east coast of Karpathos, about 12 km north of Pigadia and 5 km from Aperi. This rocky bay features gorgeous emerald waters and a long stretch of white sand adorned with small pebbles. The seabed is also rocky in some areas and it deepens relatively fast.

Surrounded by lush green hills and impressive rock formations, Achata provides an idyllic natural landscape and a wonderfully serene atmosphere. Inside these natural formations live some enchanting caves, which visitors can venture out and explore. The clarity and calmness of the waters also make this one of the best snorkeling spots on the island, with the sea hosting a vibrant ecosystem.

The beach is well-organized, offering plenty of sunbeds and parasols to rent. There is a tavern right on the shore serving delicious Mediterranean dishes and is the perfect relaxation spot after a refreshing swim.

Lastly, Achata Beach is located close to the beach of Kato Lakkos and is easy to reach by car or motorbike.

Natural shades and good place for swimming
Apella, Kyra Panagia and Achata have almost the same roads. You turn right from the main road, and there is a long, narrow, curvy road all the way down. But you will love Achata when you get there. We found the spot and parked our car, and the beach wasn't that crowded. It has natural shade from a big tree so you can stay there or rent an umbrella, or put your own umbrella. The beach is rocky, the water is cold, but not too much. It gets deep very soon, but it is good beach if you want to swim and climb on the rocks. Water is crystal clean and there is no wind in this beach, which is rare on Karpathos. Beach is beautiful, and you should visit it.
