In brief, Karpathos Airport receives direct flights from Athens, as well as some flights from nearby Dodecanese islands and a few international destinations during the summer.

The airport of Karpathos (IATA code: AOK, ICAO: LGKP) is one of the least frequented international airports of Greece, while it is situated in Karpathos' southwestern half. It lies a bit far from the island's capital, Pigadia, with the two separated by about 13 kilometers.

It was first constructed in 1970, having lots of extensive renovation work since then.

Flights

Karpathos receives some flights from domestic and European airports, including commercial or charter planes. Most direct flights are from Athens (ATH), and they are operated by Aegean Airlines (and sub-company Olympic Air) and Sky Express.

Note: All direct flights are from Europe.

How to get to & leave the airport

Distances from:
Pigadia: 13 km / 8.1 miles | Karpathos Port: 14 km / 8.7 miles | Olympos: 55 km / 34.2 miles | Diafani: 61 km / 37.9 miles

As the airport is a few kilometers from Pigadia, the center of the island, a means of transportation is necessary to leave the premises.

Public buses

Buses are the least expensive option for moving around Karpathos, though itineraries are not as frequent.
The buses connect the airport with Pigadia, where you can take another bus to most villages of Karpathos, including Olympos, Arkassa, and Mesochori.
Tickets for the bus are available onboard and before boarding, while the airport's bus station is right outside the terminals.

Tip: Should you use public transport, it would be better to notify the driver before your stop.
If you are unaware of where your bus stop is, inform the driver in advance about where you are heading, and he will proceed to stop at your destination.

Transfers and Taxis

Lots of taxis can be spotted near the airport, as well as Pigadia. Also, if you want to leave immediately after arriving, you may book a local transfer service.

Car rentals

Renting a car can be a very beneficial investment for your stay in Karpathos. You can find some car rental desks at the airport, as well as in the capital of Karpathos.

Some accommodations may have a shuttle bus option for transferring you to and from the airport. Consider contacting your accommodation to learn about availability and cost!
